Because of your support, Jeanne no longer dreads her home in winter.

Jeanne’s furnace of twenty years went out at the worst time – the middle of January. As a retired art therapist living on social security, she could not afford a new one. To make things worse, she suffers from debilitating arthritis that gets aggravated in the cold.

She remembers her dread, “I didn’t know what I was going to do. In the summer, I am pretty mobile. But in the winter, it’s just impossible with the arthritis.”

As temperatures dropped, the cold affected her condition to the point where she had trouble walking. She did some creative problem solving by setting up oil-filled electric heaters throughout the house and using a rolling chair to get around when walking got too painful. But as the winter progressed, the portable heaters couldn’t keep up with the cold, and her health continued to suffer.

That’s when Jeanne turned to Community Action’s Energy Conservation program for help. This program offers free home weatherization repairs and improvement to low-income families.

Jeanne was thrilled with the result. Thanks to supporters like you, the Energy Conservation team was able to restore heat to her home with a new furnace and new insulation. They even replaced her air conditioning system and upgraded her water heater. By the time the team was finished, Jeanne said her house felt “transformed”.

Jeanne is so grateful to donors like you who make this work possible:

“This has made a difference at a time in my life when I really needed it. I worked my whole life but I didn’t expect to be this incapacitated. I can’t get over how fortunate I am to have found Community Action and how much of a difference it has made in my life. It is really profound.”
